Melissa Etheridge bursted her way into the American rock scene with her self-titled debut album in 1988, earning critical acclaim and an appearance at the 1989 Grammy Awards show. Within just three years, she won a Grammy® and produced memorable hits such as “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs,” and “Ain’t it Heavy.” In 1993, she released the massive hits “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window,” earning her a second Grammy® Award for Best Female Rock Performance.
Etheridge's artistic achievements continued to grow as she won Songwriter of the Year at the 1996 ASCAP Pop Awards for her chart-topping album, "Your Little Secret," featuring the hit single “I Want To Come Over.” She received the ASCAP Founders Award in 2007 for her work “Herself.”
After composing “I Need to Wake Up” for Al Gore's documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, Etheridge won the Academy Award® for “Best Original Song.” Her work was also recognized by the GLAAD Media Awards in the 90s and again in 2006.
Her 15th studio album, The Medicine Show, was released in 2019, and she currently hosts her own show, EtheridgeTV. In 2021, previously unreleased songs from the late 80s and early 90s were compiled into a new album.
Etheridge's numerous accolades demonstrate her widespread appeal, while her advocacy for LGBT rights, environmental issues, and her battle with breast cancer have garnered admiration from fans.
