It’s been half a century since Lynyrd Skynyrd dropped their iconic debut album, ‘(Pronounced ‘Lĕh-’nérd ‘Skin-’nérd)’ in 1973, and the world got a taste of that real, original Southern rock with face-melting singles such as ‘Simple Man’, ‘Gimme Three Steps’, ‘Free Bird’, and ‘Tuesday’s Gone’. Half a century later, and the rock juggernauts’ debut album is hailed on Rolling Stone’s list of ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’. Half a century of that raw Southern charm, emotional intensity, smoking hot guitar work, and harmonic power vocals. Half a century, and while most of the original line-up have passed on, their music won’t ever - it's timeless, classic, pure.
Half a century? That definitely calls for a celebration - and what better way than hitting the road, bringing the classic band playing the classic hits to adoring crowds across the globe? The North American leg of the ‘50 Years of Lynyrd Skynyrd’ tour is slated to kick off right here on your doorstep, Saratoga, on 1 August at the magnificent Mountain Winery amphitheatre, rolling into various major venues across the nation for limited dates, before wrapping up at the end of August 2025 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Sometimes you just have to take a step back and enjoy the music that makes you feel like that kid flipping through vinyls in a music store again - and that is exactly what Lynyrd Skynyrd brings. Apart from the fact that they rock out like nobody else, them tearing through all the classics feels like coming home - from the musically wonderful ‘Free Bird’ and the drive of ‘Whiskey’ to the country swagger power of ‘The Ballad of Curtis Loew’ and the emotional ‘Tuesday’s Gone’, not to mention the catchy fan-favorite, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’. It’s undeniable: Lynyrd Skynyrd is a force to be reckoned with, both in music history, now, and for many years to come.
Lynyrd Skynyrd will be supported on the North American leg of their tour by The Outlaws, best known for bangers such as ‘There Goes Another Love Song’ and ‘Green Grass and High Tides’.
