Boyz II Men at Mountain Winery

The Boyz II Men’s music style was a groundbreaking feat in the R&B scene when they first launched their debut studio album, Cooleyhighharmony, in 1991. The quartet, composed of Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary, had prowess for singing in harmonies, topped with hip-hop beats. The group was also excellent at singing acapella, which endeared them to the public. This music style helped them crossover into the mainstream. Some music experts credited them for putting R&B on the mainstream map. Their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony, spawned the hit “Motownphilly.” The album achieved stellar success, selling over nine million copies. Cooleyhighharmony was later revamped, and the highly successful track, “End of the Road,” was added. The debut record marked a promising and bright road for Boyz II Men as it won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1992.

In 1994, Boyz II Men’s second effort, II, was released and sold more than 12 million copies in the U.S. The album was later nominated and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. II featured the hits “I’ll Make Love To You” and “On Bended Knee.” The album also topped the Billboard 200, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and entered the charts in 12 other countries. In 1995, award-winning singer Mariah Carey collaborated with Boyz II Men for the single “One Sweet Day,” featured in her album, Daydream. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts and stayed at number 1 for 16 weeks, setting the record for longest-running number 1 on the chart.
