Last year, both Amos Lee and Indigo Girls reached new heights in their career — not only in new music releases but also in other endeavors.
Amos Lee released "Honeysuckle Switches: The Songs of Lucinda Williams." This is in collaboration with Americana and alternative legend Lucinda Williams. The track includes 12 songs, all of which combine multiple tunes from William's career. For this reason, the album reaches one corner to another of music genres. Country, folk, and blues reign in some of the songs, which look back to the early years of William's career. Other songs reached the other end of her career, with them having more Southern rock appeal. Critics saw this release as a surprise.
"Most of Honeysuckle Switches is of sufficient appeal and invention to be both tribute and re-creation," Seuras Og wrote in his review of the album on Cover Me.
The Indigo Girls is basking in renewed mainstream exposure when their song "Closer to Fine" got featured in the Greta Gerwig blockbuster movie Barbie. The song was covered by folk superstar Brandi Carlile for the movie. This led to their songs receiving attention once again. Also, last year, their documentary film It's Only Life After All went public.
