Keb' Mo', real name Kevin Roosevelt Moore, is to blues what the stars and stripes are to the American flag. Without him, there will truly be a big hole in the genre. Born and raised in Compton, his big break came at the age of 21 when he had the opportunity to play with the iconic violinist Pap John Creach of Jefferson Airplane fame. The next 20 years saw him sharpening his skills behind the scenes as an arranger, guitarist, and songwriter, and by 1994 he released his debut album, which was self-titled.
The five-time GRAMMY award winner's abilities are truly astounding, but that shouldn't come as any surprise, as his influences come from legends such as Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, and Howlin' Wolf. Using them as well as inspiration from soul, country, and folk, he has created a truly unique blues sound.
Being one of the most important musicians of his generation, he has found himself collaborating with many artists, including Bonnie Raitt, The Chicks, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, and Taj Mahal, just to name a few in his genre. Not only that, the super talented musician has also worked with other members from other genres too, such as Zac Brown and B.B. King.
As one of the most impactful people in blues, fans cannot help but respect him for keeping the genre alive… aaannnddd using his fame, he has become an advocate for worthwhile social justice causes and promotes several environmental issues.
Despite his age, it seems like there is nothing that will slow him down. He is actively touring, but you already knew that because you're getting ready to attend this concert, right? In addition, he is also recording new music, like his most recent single, "Good To Be (Home Again)," which you can check out below. Just checking out the comments on that video will show you how well received it already is.
